Dr Zak Jaques Brisbane Bird Vet Chermside

Dr Zak Jaques

BVSc (Hons) (Qld), Veterinarian

Dr Zak Jaques is a male Veterinarian.

Having spent his childhood split between Japan and the United States, Zak developed a keen interest in the natural world from an early age. Wherever he and his family moved, he always looked forward to the new wildlife he would encounter. Time not spent in the woods was generally spent with his family’s chickens, ducks, geese, and conure. This eventually evolved into him acquiring a dual degree in Conservation Biology and Environmental Science from Colby College in Maine (USA) in 2014. Before moving to Australia to study veterinary science, he has worked in international relations, conservation biology and fisheries.

Zak’s interest in Australia began at a young age, when his parents bought him the VHS series ‘Really Wild Animals’, where he learned all about the Australian Outback and Great Barrier Reef. Eventually acting on this interest, Zak moved to Queensland, where he graduated from University of Queensland in 2022, with a Bachelors of Veterinary Science (Honours). When he’s not working at Brisbane Bird Vet, Zak can be found pursuing one of his many hobbies. Depending on the day, he may be at the gym, making beats, playing board games, or spending too much time trying to ‘upgrade’ his plant collection. Currently, Zak co-owns a cat and an axolotl. He soon hopes to also add a feathered friend or three to his ever-growing menagerie.
